M.E. Flow Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing Services
Providing heating, cooling, and plumbing services to: Loudoun County, Fairfax County, Prince William County, Frederick County, Clarke County, Arlington County, and City of Alexandria, Virginia– Since 1951.
Our family business started back in 1951 after our grandfather, Millard Flow, retired from the railroad. He was looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to serve his local community. Living in Alexandria with our grandmother, Katherine, he saw a need for a dependable, trustworthy, and quality HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning contractor) home service contractor. The family owned and operated business became a success in Alexandria! In the late 80’s, our grandfather convinced his son-in-law and our father, Brian Goulet, to join the business.
Our father was instrumental in expanding the business to serve the entire Northern Virginia area. In the late 80’s, with the help of my mother, Judith Goulet, my parents opened an HVAC shop here in our home town of Leesburg. My father quickly saw a need for quality plumbers and sought out the area’s best plumbers and added the plumbing division.
I always knew that I would be a part of the company my grandfather started and I joined the business 28 years ago. After losing our father in a tragic accident 2 years ago, the family business is now in its 3rd generation, led by me, Scott Goulet, and my sister, Michelle Goulet-Swart. We both grew up working in the business, with my father teaching me and preparing me for the day that I would take over his position.
So what is unique about our business? Honestly, it’s the foundation that my father and grandfather built the business on. We have many long-term customers who tell us they use M.E. Flow because they like that it’s a family business– one of honor and integrity. Many of our customers knew my father, too. If you knew him, he was known to always be checking-in– via phone or in-person– on his fellow business friends, customers and employees, and those in our community who were in need. He was a relationship person and a caring individual.
One of the challenges we face in business today is the ever changing roles of the HVAC contractor. With higher standards in NATE (North American Technical Excellence) Certification and training, the role and responsibilities have evolved. There was a time when an HVAC technician would only deal with heating and cooling–but today we are trained to mitigate health hazards that exist in the home from indoor air quality problems. Today, we are trained Indoor Air Quality Specialist and have helped many of our clients who deal with allergies, mold, dampness and dryness. One of my memorable stories is when one of our service technicians made a recommendation to the homeowner to install a low-level CO monitor. A few weeks after the monitor was installed, the homeowner was alerted to a problem and called the fire department. We arrived shortly after the fire department and were able to locate the source of the CO. Our recommendation literally saved lives! Stories like that are the payoff to our commitment to training, to serving our customers, and to protecting their health, comfort and safety!
We are thankful to our customers for supporting us over the years. M.E. Flow’s plumbing division has been voted Best of Loudoun for the last three years in a row. And, recently, we were surprised when the Mayor of Leesburg recognized M.E. Flow as a Legacy Business for being in business for 25 years here in Loudoun County.
My sister, Michelle, and I are committed to carrying on the family tradition of excellence. The same reasons our customers used us in 1951 are still the same reasons they use us today! We look forward to caring for our employees and our customers for another 25 years! We will always treat your home like it’s our own!
