How This Family Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing Business Started
Providing heating, cooling, and plumbing services to Loudoun County, Fairfax County, Prince William County, Frederick County, Clarke County, Arlington County, and City of Alexandria, Virginia– Since 1951.
Our family heating, cooling, and plumbing business started back in 1951. Millard Flow, my grandfather, was looking for an opportunity to serve his local community while living in Alexandria with his wife, Katherine. The area was in need for a dependable, trustworthy, and quality HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning contractor) home service contractor. The family owned and operated business became a success in Alexandria! In the late 80s, Millard convinced his son-in-law and our father, Brian Goulet, to join the business.
Brian was instrumental in expanding the business to serve the entire Northern Virginia area. In the late 80s, with the help of my mother, Judith, they opened an HVAC shop here in our home town of Leesburg. After seeing a need for quality plumbers in the area M.E. Flow sought out the area’s best plumbers and added the plumbing division.
The family business is now operated by its 3rd generation.
So what is unique about M.E. Flow? It’s the foundation that the business was built on by the generations. M.E. Flow has many long-term customers who tell us they use us because they like that it’s a family business– one of honor and integrity. Many of our customers knew my father, too. If he knew you, he was always checking-in– via phone or in-person– on his fellow business friends, customers and employees, and those in our community who were in need. He was a relationship person and a caring individual.
One of the challenges we face in business today is the ever changing roles of the HVAC contractor. With higher standards in NATE (North American Technical Excellence) Certification and training, the role and responsibilities have evolved. There was a time when an HVAC technician would only deal with heating and cooling–but today we are trained to mitigate health hazards that exist in the home from indoor air quality problems. Today, we are trained Indoor Air Quality Specialist and have helped many of our clients who deal with allergies, mold, dampness and dryness. One of my memorable stories is when one of our service technicians made a recommendation to the homeowner to install a low-level CO monitor. A few weeks after the monitor was installed, the homeowner was alerted to a problem and called the fire department. We arrived shortly after the fire department and were able to locate the source of the CO. The recommendation by our HVAC service technician literally saved lives! Stories like that are the payoff to our commitment to training, serving our customers, and protecting their health, comfort and safety!
We are thankful to our customers for supporting us over the years. M.E. Flow’s plumbing division has been voted Best of Loudoun for three years in a row. And, recently, we were surprised when the Mayor of Leesburg recognized M.E. Flow as a Legacy Business for being in business for 25 years here in Loudoun County.
My sister, Michelle, and I are committed to carrying on the family tradition of caring for our customers and striving for excellence. The same reasons our customers used us in 1951 are still the same reasons they use us today! We look forward to caring for our employees and our customers for another 25 years! We will always treat your home like it’s our own!
