Clog-Free Bathroom Sink Drains

3 things you can do now to keep your bathroom sink drains flowing

Have you noticed that your bathroom drains are holding water and are slow to drain? Have you wondered why your bathroom drains seem to clog more often than other drains? That is the question I asked my plumber and the answer I got may surprise you!

I recently had a plumber at my house to install a drinking water filtration system and while he was there I asked him why one of the sinks in my bathroom drains slower than the other. He told me that my hair is the culprit— and gave me some great plumbing tips that I’ll pass on to you today!

First, if your drains are slow and before they get completely clogged try this first:

  1. Remove the sink stopper and clean — that is where the scum and hair will be collecting.
  2. Try this natural drain clearing method — Run some hot water, drop a handful of baking soda into the drain and follow with hot water, then pour about a cup of vinegar and let sit for a minute, followed with 2 quarts of boiling hot water!

The tip I got from my plumber:

Just like the picture in this post, periodically fill the sink with water and then open the stopper. The water will help push whatever may be collecting in the drain pipes. It made sense and I’ve been doing it about once a week.

Remember to run plenty of water after you brush your teeth, etc. If your drain does clog and you can’t clear it yourself you may need to call a plumber for a professional drain clearing.

M.E. Flow has professional drain clearing equipment — hydro-jets and augers. The plumber’s snake or cable auger is a long flexible steel cable that goes down into the drainpipe and is manually operated by the plumber. It clears the drain and can be used for clearing clogged toilets, kitchen, and shower drains too!
